History of Proctor's Air
In 1948, E. E. "Gene" Proctor began work for a local mechanical contractor beginning a carrer in air conditioning, heating, and refrigeration that would extend over the next 50 years. The next 10 years of work would see him and his family travel through Wichita, Kansas and Rochester, New York before returning home in 1959. He continued working in the trade, once again with a local contractor.
In 1970, Mr. and Mrs. Proctor started "Proctor's Quality Service" out of their home, to personally serve the air conditioning and heating needs of the residents of his native Marion County in an ethical manner.
In 1976, the company was incorporated as "Proctor's Air Conditioning and Heating, Inc." This name was chosen to clarify the types of products and services we offered. ("No ma'am, we don't fix washers, dryers, toasters, mixers, or can openers. And we don't do windows, either.") And "Air Conditioning" came before "Heating" in the name, because it usually is the more important need here in central Florida.
Even though the name changed, ethical service in a personal and professional manner has remained at the core of our values, and "Quality" is still our middle name.
1976 also marked the year that Scott Proctor joined the family business as an apprentice. After 16 years of learning at his father's side, in 1992 Scott began the process to buy the company, allowing his parents the opportunity to enjoy a well deserved retirement.
Scott and his staff continue the Proctor family tradition in the air conditioning and heating business with an emphasis on "Quality" and "Service" to our customers.
